The Future – C++ and QT

I’ve been dark for a day or so and just signing in here to give a quick update.

I’m taking an into course to QT and C++ presently and going through the usual mind numbming intro topics: data types, syntax, conditional logic, loops, etc. QT and C++ are complex languages and this exploration is going to take some time and focus. the idea here is these will be fundamental to my future endeavors – QT for UI development, C/C++, well, it will play a role in almost everything else.

It is psychologically challenging to make this move. I don’t really want to relearn a bunch of coding paradigms. I put 4 months into Python and now I’m going back to C++ which is drastically different, and more complex. Both Arduino C and Python have strong open source communities with libraries for almost anything you can think of. C++ has been around forever but I’m not sure it is known for it’s Open Source resources. Perhaps it is, but I haven’t seen it or personally benefited from it, yet. It is just really hard to sit down, be patient, and listen to exlanations for foundational things you’ve hear a flavor of countless times, knowing that paying attention is critical because some important nuance is about to be revealed. UGH!

All of this is pretty painful for my 55 year old brain as well. I don’t soak up information like i used to and to be honest, focus and concentration are continuous challenges for me these days. I learn, but I learn slower. It is a bit maddening, but I keep hoping the regimine will bear fruit, the clouds will part, and the sun will shine through. We’ll see.
